registration...

the time is near and registration is wide open. get your numbers and start to plan your trip...if you haven't already. what am i talking about? well...guatemala!! head over to the main site and make sure to read all the travel and housing info...

Trust us, you don't want to get stuck in Guatemala City...Relax and take your time...

pay attention kids. guatemala is lots of fun but, don't forget, it's a third world country with third world issues. i love my parents homeland but...well, safety first. register and e-mail the event coordinators for more assistance if you need it. the site already provides some valuable information. do not get left out in the street!! make sure you have somewhere to stay...it's very affordable...

Don't come to Panajachel without housing! We'd hate for you to get caught out in the streets! As a participant in CMWC 2010, you will be responsible for arranging your own housing.

after the 15th...registration goes up. it's at 80.oo now but...

Hola amigos!
Just a reminder, April 15th is not only tax day in the US, but also the last day before CMWC registration goes up to $100.

To help make your decision easier, we are announcing the first of what will hopefully be many CMWC raffles; on April 15th, everyone registered for the CMWC (as a guest or participant) will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a brand new Ultimate OS messenger bag from Pac Bags, valued at $380. We plan to raffle off at least 2 more bags from our sponsors, and if all goes well, we hope to have lots of other goodies to give away in the weeks and months to come.

We will announce the winner of the Pac Bag on April 16th, and stay tuned for details about future raffles. The earlier you register, the more chances you will have to win. Good luck!

for more info on housing head here. this event will definitely be a memorable one. from what i hear...it's got the backing of the national government...nice! im gonna have some information of my own, concerning travel, housing, and whatever else i can think of, so stay tuned. remember, the madness starts on september 3rd and ends on the 13th...peace.

not that we got hit with a bad winter or anything but it's nice to see 60's and 70's...especially if it's going to be slow out. lets hope it isn't slow and the weather stays nice...peace.

bike messenger song?!?!

i had no idea there was a song but apparently there is...ha! this is a great story...check it!

My Daughter Lucinda is in Kindergarten. She came home from school the other day and asked if I had ever been a bike messenger. I said yes, and why was she wondering? She said they were studying bike messengers in school and reading stories about them and singing songs about them.

thanks andrew for the heads up. read the rest of the story here and don't skip the vids. great job kristen. im sure you gave messengers a good name. i wonder if my little guy will have me come give a messenger talk at his school...hahahahaha!! can you imagine?!

what to do...

i got on the board late in the day...around 1600. i get word that one of our bikers was involved in a hit-n-run and is on his way in. wtf?! are you serious?! is he ok? i call him...he sounds shaken up but alright. i ask if he took down the other peoples information...nope! he arrives to the base...

6678...im ok. im a bit sore but i think im fine. my bars are bent and my front wheel is out of true but...im fine?

dispatch...wait, you didn't fill out a police report? you didn't get the other peoples info?

6678...the lady hit me and just jumped into her car. she took a picture of me as she drove away. i got the license plate.

...see, the lady took a pic to show that the messenger was fine as she was leaving. im assuming to show that he was fine and has no case. this really p*ssed me off...there's a more humane way to find out if he's ok...ask him!!! i asked the messenger if there were any witnesses but he didn't take that info also. i advised him to head to the police station to make a report. i know what the police is going to say..."not much we can do" but he should still make the report. he should have done everything in his power to make sure they didn't leave. he might be ok but his bike wasn't...he needs it for WORK! if he can't work then he's not ok.

there's another way this could have played out. a friend of a family member was involved in a collision while playing a sport. she was fine for about an hour and then her memory started fading. soon...she was losing the ability to speak. they rushed her to the hospital and all was fine. all head scans came back...ok. she did suffer a concusion and would spend the next 48 hours vomiting until she gets better. why do i share this story? cause the messenger was doored...he might have been ok at the moment but an hour later? who knows? the lady took the pic but what if he would have suffered a concusion? would she be there to snap a pic of him then?

moral of the story? do everything you can to make sure you have witnesses...make sure you take down everyones information...make sure you fill our a police report. the lady should have paid for the messengers bars and front wheel. unfortunately the messenger is no longer with us but he is fine. i wish him the best of luck in whatever else he will do. ride safe kids...peace.
